the agreement
By using Slates of Life (“Slates”), you’re agreeing to these terms. They cover what you can do here, what we ask of you, and what we promise back. We’ve kept them short on purpose — if something feels missing or unclear, email us and we’ll clarify.
who can use slates
You need to be at least 13 years old. You agree to give us a real email and a real name, to keep your sign-in credentials safe, and not to share your account with someone else. If your account is used to violate these terms, we may suspend or close it.
your content stays yours
Everything you write, take, record, or upload into Slates is yours. You own it. You decide who sees it — only the members of the circles you put it in.
By putting content into Slates, you grant us a narrow license to store it, transmit it, and display it back to you and the members of your circles. That license exists only so we can actually run the service. It doesn’t let us sell your content, license it to anyone else, train models on it, or use it for ads. The license ends when you delete the content or your account.
how to use slates
Slates is for close circles. Please don’t use it to:
- harass, threaten, or harm another person;
- share sexual content involving minors, or content depicting real violence or abuse;
- impersonate someone else or claim a name that isn’t yours;
- share someone else’s private information without their consent;
- post hate speech or incite violence against a group;
- share illegal content, or content that infringes someone’s copyright;
- scrape, copy, or redistribute another member’s content outside the circles they shared it in;
- spam, advertise, or use the app for commercial promotion;
- attempt to break, probe, or overload our systems.
We act on confirmed violations. Depending on severity, that can mean removing the content, removing you from a circle, suspending your account, or closing it permanently.
reporting and blocking
If you see something abusive, long-press the entry and tap “report” — the report comes to us. You can also block another member from their member sheet; blocking is mutual, so neither of you will see the other’s content anywhere in the app. You can leave any circle at any time.
We commit to reviewing reports within 24 hours and to acting on confirmed violations.
circles, membership, and removal
Any active member of a circle can invite new members. Only the creator of a circle can remove other members. Anyone can leave a circle, including the creator — if the creator leaves, ownership passes to the next earliest-joined member. When a sealed slate is reopened by group consensus, it stays editable for 48 hours before sealing again.
closing your account
You can close your account at any time in the app from Profile → Privacy & account → Delete account, or by emailing support@slatesoflife.com. Closing your account removes your content from the views your circles can see, queues all of it for permanent deletion within 30 days, and rolls over from backup snapshots within another 30 days.
We may suspend or close your account if you violate these terms, if your account is used to harm other members, or if we’re required to by law. We’ll tell you when this happens unless telling you would itself be unlawful.
things we don’t guarantee
Slates is offered as-is. We work hard to keep the service running and your data safe, but we don’t guarantee that the app will be available without interruption, that every feature will work on every device, or that no bug will ever appear. We don’t guarantee a particular outcome from using Slates — that’s up to the moments you and your circles bring to it.
To the extent allowed by law, we’re not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of Slates. Where law requires otherwise (for instance, mandatory consumer-protection rights in your jurisdiction), those rights still apply.
if something goes wrong
If you have a complaint, please email support@slatesoflife.com first. We’ll do our best to make it right informally. If informal resolution fails, applicable consumer-protection laws in your jurisdiction govern any further dispute.
third-party services
Slates runs on top of a small number of third-party services (described in the privacy policy). Their own terms apply where they handle data on our behalf. Sign in with Apple is subject to Apple’s terms; Sign in with Google is subject to Google’s.
copyright
If you believe content in Slates infringes your copyright, email support@slatesoflife.com with the URL or description of the content, a description of the work you own, your contact information, and a statement that the claim is made in good faith. We’ll review and act per applicable copyright law.
if these terms change
We’ll update the effective date at the top whenever we change something material, and we’ll email you if the change affects how you can use the app. Continuing to use Slates after a change means you accept the updated terms; if you don’t accept them, you can close your account.
